Biography
Charles William Pearce was born in Salisbury, England, received significant private musical training, and was a graduate of Cambridge. At age fourteen, he became organist at St. Martin’s, Salisbury, and then held organist positions at St. Luke, Old Street, and at St. Clement, Eastcheap. He held positions of professor and dean at Trinity College of Music, London, was professor of harmony at Guildhall school of Music, and dean of the Faculty of Music at the University of London. He authored numerous books on music. He died in Wimborne, Dorset. His compositions include an oratorio, cantatas, services, anthems, organ pieces, hymns, songs, and part-songs.
