Cum invitatus fueris ad nuptias, recumbe in novissimo loco, ut dicat tibi, qui te invitavit: amice, ascende superius! tunc erit tibi gloria coram simul discumbentibus.

German translation

Wenn du von jemandem zur Hochzeit geladen bist, so setze dich untenan, damit, der, der dich eingeladen hat, zu dir sagt: Freund, rücke hinauf! Dann wirst du Ehre haben vor allen, die mit dir zu Tisch sitzen.

English translation

When thou art bidden to a wedding, sit down in the lowest place; that when he that bade thee says unto thee, Friend, go up higher! Then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
