Italian.png Italian text

Deh, avesse Amor così nei pensier miei
il tuo pensier, come ci ha il viso sculto!
Io son ben certa che lo troverei
palese tal, qual io lo stimo occulto;
e che sì fuor di gelosia sarei,
ch'ad or ad or non mi farebbe insulto;
e dove a pena or è da me respinta,
rimarria morta, non che rotta e vinta.

English.png English translation

Ah, if Love would but show me your thought
As it has shown me your handsome face!
Then I am certain I would find, unsought,
Such revealed as all such thoughts efface,
And, thus, be quit of Jealousy, as I ought,
That would not so harass me, in this place.
For she, whose expulsion costs me great pain,
Would not be routed merely, but be slain.
