Biography

Elizabeth Scott was an English hymn-writer. The daughter of Thomas Scott, an independent minister of HitchinLink to the English Wikipedia article and NorwichLink to the English Wikipedia article, she appears to have written her hymns before 1750. In 1751 she married Elisha WilliamsLink to the English Wikipedia article (formerly Rector of Yale College), and moved to Connecticut. Williams died in 1755, and Elizabeth married the Hon. William Smith of New York, who predeceased her. She died at Wethersfield, ConnecticutLink to the English Wikipedia article.
