General Information
Title: Es spricht der Unweisen Mund wohl, SWV 110
Composer: Heinrich Schütz
Lyricist: Martin Luther
Number of voices: 4vv Voicing: SATB
Genre: Sacred, Chorale
Language: German
Instruments: A cappella
First published: 1628 in Psalmen Davids, Op. 5. Revised by Schütz in 1661, no. 14
2nd published: 1894 in Heinrich Schütz: Sämtliche Werke, Volume 16, no. 14 & 53
3rd published: 1957 in Neue Schütz-Ausgabe, Volume 6, p. 14
Description: Psalm 14 from the Becker Psalter. Although the original (Renaissance) melody by Martin Luther is in Lydian mode, Schütz' interpretation is more modern (Baroque) and the lowest point is therefore not an "e♭" but an "e". Unfortunately Blankenburg did not consider this in his edition when combining the Cantus part (Soprano) and the Altus part in one staff.
