Biography
Heinrich Pfeil was a Saxon musician, editor and composer. He was born in Leipzig, in modern-day Germany, and early came into contact with choral music. He loved folksongs and the folklike singing of amateur choirs. In 1862 he took over the editorship of the "Sängerhalle", the official newspaper of the Deutscher Sängerbund (German Singers' Association). He held this post until 1887. From 1890 until 1896 he lived in Glauchau. Thereafter he returned to his native city of Leipzig, where he also died. In addition to the "Sängerhalle" he also published a "Tonkünstler-Merkbüchlein" ("Musicians' Notebook"), a Glee Club Calendar and a book of stories about musicians.
