Biography
Graduated from Harvard; member of the Massachusetts legislature; editor of the Boston Daily Bee; anti-secessionist & abolitionist; after moving to St. Louis, became colonel of the 51st U.S. Colored Infantry, then brigadier general. Later held various political appointments.
