Life

Biography

A John Wood was a lay vicar at Westminster Abbey in the 1550s; he was one of the twelve members of that choir granted mourning livery to sing at the funeral of King Edward VI. A John Wood was also a lay vicar of St George's Chapel, Windsor in at least 1596. Either of these could be the composer and they might or might not be the same man. The composer has been erroneously identified as the Master of the Children at Christ Church, Canterbury c.1530, but that man's name was actually Thomas Wood.
