Italian text La bella greca onde 'l pastor Ideo in gloriosa fiamm'il suo tempo arse, s'al vostro lume di mia morte reo potess'oggi agguagliarsi, perderebbe sua prova. O chiaro splendor d'Adria Elena nova che da' begli occhi ond'Amor vuol ch'io moia è vinto 'l ciel non pure Sparta Troia.

English translation The beautiful greek for whom the shepherd Ideo once burned with a glorious flame: if your radiance, responsible for my death, could today match [hers], she would lose her renown. Oh bright splendor of Adria, O new Helen, for by your lovely eyes, for which Love desires I die, is heaven, too, conquered—not just Sparta and Troy. Translation by Allen Garvin
