Manuscript 1780 in The Waterhouse Manuscript, no. 5
Description: This tune appeared first (and only?) in The Waterhouse Manuscript, 1780, attributed to "S H" – probably Susanna Heath, the transcriber. It does not appear to be of the quality of other known composers in this manuscript (William Billings, Lemuel Babcock), so it probably does belong to Susanna Heath.
Karl Kroeger says, “Variant of Medfield, pub. in [Billings'] NEPS, p. 94 and SMA, p. 10”. They seem to be completely different tunes.
Words by Isaac Watts, 1709, in Hymns and Spiritual Songs, Hymn 146 of Book 2.
