Mort m’a privé par sa cruell’envye
d’ung medecin cognoissant ma nature,
Et m’a remis en si grand frenesye
qu’en peu de temps j’ay bien changé pasture.
Riens me my vault ma grand progeniture;
Vertu me couvre armée de patience,
Divin voloir passe humaine science.

Death has deprived me in its cruel spite
Of the physician who best cared for me,
And cast me into such a fev’rish plight
That in little time was I lost at sea.
Worthless now is my lofty ancestry,
Virtue enshrouds me, girdled in patience,
Divine will surpasseth human science.
