Italian text Parti, l’idolo mio, l’adorato mio bene, Ed io restai ma con qual core O Dio! Su dillo anima mia, tu che lo sai, Se pure hai lingua ed hai virtù, che basti a dir come partì Come restasti. La bella vita mia, so che m’abbandonò Ma poi ridir qual sia Il mio dolor non so O voi che m’ascoltate Se vedeste il tormento onde sospiro, Mossi tutti a pietate del mio grave martiro O piangereste O pur di reste almeno: Povera Clori, o quanti affani ha in seno! Tormentosa, crudele partita, Tu m’uccidi e ancor non moro. Pria doveve privarmi di vita, Che privarmi dell’ idol ch’adoro.

English translation My idol, my adored darling has departed And with what feeling in my heart have I been left, Oh God! Come now, say it, my soul, you who know it, If indeed you have both speech and virtue Sufficient to relate how he departed, How you have been left.
