Questa ordì il laccio questa
Sì bella man fra fiori, e l'herba il tese
E questa il cor mi prese e fù sì presta
A trarlo in mezz'a mille fiamm'accese
Hor che l'hò qui ristretta
Vendetta, Amor, vendetta.

English translation by Mick Swithinbank

This hand it was that laid the snare,
this lovely hand concealed it
amid flowers and blades of grass:
this hand seized my heart and in a trice
enveloped it in a myriad of flames.
Now that I hold it clasped in mine,
god of love, pray give me my revenge!
