English text
Believe me, tears may ofttimes start
As pledges of a happier heart
Than smiles might ever show.
In gracious silence while they steal,
No chilling taunt their course congeal,
Such tears still sacred flow.
Ah! lightly trip the hours, as zephyrs blushing flowers,
When peace sheds her beam on the breast,
So soft they flutter by, we count not ere they fly,
But feel that their passage is blest.
