English text
Beside a placid silver stream,
At eve’s still our how sweet to roam,
And muse upon those happy scenes
That we in childhood’s days have known.
But those are gone and deepened gloom
Has shadowed each succeeding day,
Yet still does memory thither turn
To wile an anxious hour away.
