English.png English text

When in the westerly Heaven over the mountains with purple enwrapt,
The sun sinketh down.
Panteth the breast joyfully free, and seeketh rejoicing,
The cool delicious wind of evening.

Calmer now is the spirit, a tranquil bright becalmed sea
Spreads far and wide.
Swanlike float winged memories thither,
Thither across the soft waters float.

Quiet sinketh upon me from Heaven.
Over the tired eyes fall softly the eyelids.
And in wondrous visions of night I gather loveliest blossoms of slumber;
Sweet slumber’s loveliest blossoms and golden fruit of dreams.

English “imitation” of Emanuel von Geibel
