English text 1. Beneath the stern, unyielding power Of chilling winter's icy breath, Each feeble, tender, transient flower Resigns its beauty, sinks in death.

2. But summer's sun, with genial ray, Will drive the wintry gloom away, And humble flowers again resume Their charms, with renovated bloom.

3. Thus do the haughty sons of earth, With transient triumph here disdain The humble Christian's modest worth, And glory in his dying pain.

4. But He, who bids the thunders speak, Proclaims his blessings to the meek: Transports the soul beyond earth's gloom, To regions of perennial bloom.
