Jack Frost set out on a Journey
From regions across the sea,
And he never stayed, or his step, delayed,
A traveller swift was he.

He startled the scented zephyr,
And frightened the purling brook;
Straight ahead he went, on his work intent,
And grim was his every look.

Jack Frost was really good natured,
Though looking so cold and grim,
And none ever yet, a traveller met
Who’d enter Love’s lists with him!

He answered to wishes unspoken
And covered the streams with ice,
Till each youth and maid of every grade
Vowed deep that his ways were nice.

Jack Frost soon ended his sojourn,
And flew to a far-off land;
But his stay, though short, together had brought
Full many a warm young hand!

And maidens and youths now wonder
How hearts are so quickly lost?
And Echo replies, “The secret all lies
With one, and his name’s Jack Frost.”
