Biography

Born in Crema either in 1468 or 1469, he was a lawyer before being appointed chief magistrate of Milan in 1524. Quoted also by Ariosto as one of the main italian poets of the XVI century, he is mostly remembered for his sonnet "L'altezza degli dei, l'umano orgoglio" and for a lyric written in memory of his dead son Ippolito, which was put in music by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina in his first book of madrigals
