The first verse of the hymn makes no sense on its own; it is not sentence. Should one or more of the other verses be performed to make a prayer?

Ah, yes, that was a bit of an oversight on my part. In Praetorius's publication only the first verse is underlaid, in this setting; of course, he set subsequent verses to other settings. But I haven't had time to transcribe those, and now won't have access to a score to transcribe for a long while (probably). I guess my recommendation for performance would be to sing more verses to the same music. Hopefully I'll be able to upload some of Praetorius's settings of the other verses someday... Ross, Oh, I see. Tricky. One would probably get away with adding just verse two which has a usable verb in the last line:
Qui mane iunctum vesperi/diem vocari praecipis:/tetrum chaos illabitur,/audi preces cum fletibus.
(Whose wisdom joined in meet array/The morn and eve and named them day:/Night comes with all its darkling fears;/Regard thy people's prayers and tears) (English Hymnal - J M Neale - translation - rather 'free' !).
Thanks for the reply. Marghek 10:24, 9 May 2012 (CDT)
