Instrumental parts
Hello. I'm putting on a performance of the Messiah, and I was looking for sheet music. I've found vocal and instrumental scores here, but does anybody know where I can find instrumental parts? Josy 23:40, 25 June 2008 (PDT)
- That would be nice, wouldn't it? I dont know if the MuseData files can be opened by Sibelius and can't even try because I get a server can't find www.extraordinarymeasures.com message. The direct link to The Messiah scores in MuseData. All these scores are also avaliable in the Humdrum (kern) file format. Humdrum scores can easily be converted to musicXML (1.0) with the help of the hum2xml utility program. MusicXML scores can be imported into all major notation programs, such as Finale, Sibelius, Capella etc. --MWE 19:57, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
To merge or not to merge
I don't quite understand why we need so many different pages. Couldn't we put all the links in this page, the way it's done for Bach's St Matthew Passion for example? I think it would be more user friendly. If the Administrators agree I can do it. giulia tonelli 22:05, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- That makes sense to start with, Giulia, but then you come to movements like the Hallelujah Chorus and the page would just get far too big. In this case, I think it would be better if each movement had a separate page as it is at the moment (some score pages have to be merged of course, which is something that I've been working on). --Bobnotts talk 22:39, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right, I see what you mean. On the other hand, only 2 or 3 movements have more than 3 editions. We may put the scores on the main page for most movements, and for those 2 or 3 create a link to another page. Just an idea. giulia tonelli 14:57, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
numbering
In J. P. Larsen's book (Handel's Messiah: origins, Composition, Sources Copenhagen 1957) one reads (p216):
- Novello's numbering will be used...the numbers given in Peter's edition and Coopersmith's piano transcription will be shown in brackets where they differ...thus No. 18 (P 16, C19) ("Rejoice")
It would be nice to find that in the meantime one numbering system has been accepted, but now we have a New Novello with old numbers and a new Halle Handel Edition that like the Peters does not count recitatives. "Rejoice" exists in versions A, B (triplet version with the later cut: NN 18 "version II (the second to be composed)", Coop. A or HHA 16a) and C (sixteeth note version, NN "version I [!]", Coop. B or HHA 16). Larsen calls these A, A1 and B. Ach...
Until we agree on something I dont think I'll start renaming pages, but there's no good reason to count "O Thou that Tellest" twice (making "Rejoice" # 20) and I'm going to redo the piped numbers at least to agree with Novello. Richard Mix 10:23, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Score 20304 "For unto us a child is born" has two pages, in full score, but it is not a keyboard reduction, nor does it have eight pages. Is another score available, please? Either a full score with strings, and continuo, or a vocal score? Thank you.
