English text
Whither now, my little Maiden,
Whither, with your footsteps light,
With your basket at your elbow
And your hat with berries bright?
Daisy, with a gush of laughter,
Lightly tossed her pretty head,
Going to the meadows yellow,
Yellow with the cowslips tread.
Tra la la la la la.
Far and near, the laughing sunshine
Bids me welcome, bids me go,
Go from out the sombre cottage,
’Cross the meadows so and so;
All the little dots of cowslips
Dozing in their grassy beds,
Will awake when I’m among them,
Nipping off their dainty heads.
Tra la la la la la.
Go, my darling, happy Daisy,
Come again with song and flowers;
While you stay, we sadly miss you,
Count with weariness the hours;
Happy be the homes of many,
Where such loving spirits stay
As the one who ’cross the meadows,
Goeth forth this summer day.
Tra la la la la la.
