Con la fronte fiorita e crini ardenti,
la vaga Aurora sorge
e lieta Flora porge
Arabi odori a i lusinghevol venti,
ahi, che tutto gioisce,
solo'il mio cor languisce.
Gorgheggian pront'i garuli Augeletti,
sol desiando il Sole
e le ros'e viole
aprono a l'aura i ruggiadosi petti,
ahi, che tutto e ridente,
fuor che il mio cor dolente.
Per verdi prati van le fiere snelle,
vaghi e liete scherzando
e l'api susurrando
fan preda ond' arricchiscon le lorcelle
ahi, che tutto s'allegra,
fuor che la mia ment'egra.
Ma spero ch'io saro pur lieto un giorno
s'avien che mi console
altra aurora, altro sole,
con l'aspettato suo dolce ritorno,
