The crimson trefoil decks the field,
The hedge is clad in snow-white May,
The gold of broom is every where,
The cloudless blue pours down the day.

Twin notes of Cuckoo haunt the vale,
The Lark’s gay rapture fills the sky;
The Copse out-breathes faint undertones
When summer winds go loitering by.

The fragrance of the clover blooms
Is blent with hawthorn-redolence;
It seems a land of All Delight,
Where joys enchant each separate sense.

Where sight and sound and odour join,
Three Sirens chanting one sweet lay:
“Lift up your eyes, Lift up your hearts,
It is a perfect Summer day!”
