Biography
George W. Fields was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana, and established a strong reputation as a music teacher in the state. He moved west and held music normal schools and singing schools in Kansas and Iowa. He settled in Shenandoah, Iowa. There he taught music, travelling throughout the region, and operated a music publishing business. His most widely distributed publication was the class book the Song Eureka. He died in in Shenandoah, Iowa. His compositions were tailored for music instruction.
