Hoist the sail and let’s away!
A freshening wind is blowing,
Hoist the sail! from out the bay
The tide is swiftly flowing.

For us no ease, across the seas,
Our bark must soon be speeding,
Though high the waves and strong the breeze,
To them we give no heeding.

On the waters dark and drear,
Jesu, Saviour, Thou art near,
With our ship where’er we roam,
As with loving friends at home,

Safely from the boisterous main,
Bring us back to port again.
In our haven we shall be,
Jesu, if we have but Thee.

Hoist the sail and let’s away!
The last farewells are spoken,
Hoist the sail! for us today,
Shall no fond hearts be broken.

A parting cheer from off the pier
No foolish sighs or pleading,
All know full well to steer or sail,
Our hands no skill are needing.
