Salve orbis decus et superi pia sponsa parentis,
aligerum iubar et divum regina polorum,
tu nostros quas te colimus ne despice cantus.
Salve stella maris, Mariam te suscipit orbis,
in te spem figit, te matrem quaerit habere,
quaesumus alma parens eius pia vota secundes.
German translation
Sei gegrüßt, Zierde der Welt und fromme Braut des himmlischen Vaters,
geflügelter Glanz und Himmelskönigin der Heiligen,
verachte nicht unsere Gesänge, mit denen wir Dich ehren.
Sei gegrüßt, Stern des Meeres, Dich, Maria, empfängt die Welt,
auf Dich setzt sie ihre Hoffnung, Dich will sie als Mutter haben,
wir bitten, gütige Mutter, schenke ihren frommen Gebeten Gunst!
English translation
Hail, adornment of the world and devout bride of the heavenly father,
winged radiance and queen of heaven to the saints,
do not despise the songs we proffer in your honour.
Hail, star of the sea: the world receives you, Mary,
and puts its hope in you; it wishes you to be its mother.
We beseech you, kind mother, look favourably upon its devout prayers.
