English text
The South Wind is a minstrel,
He cometh when the Moon
Wakes up the flowers in fairy bowers,
To listen to his tune.
See how the poor rose trembles
And weepeth at his song,
As if he brought unto her a thought,
Some memory of wrong.
The South Wind is a minstrel,
A fair reward he meets,
Where’er he goes, each floweret throws
Him largess from her sweets.
Hid harp a spider’s web is,
And oaten straw his lute,
Sweet music clear for fairy’s ear,
But which to man is mute.
