In the early dawn,
When the waking morn
Trips the mountain peak with rosy glow,
With a heart of joy
Sings the shepherd boy:
“Oo-la, la-ee, la-ee, la-ee-o!”

Up the mountain there,
In a rocky lair,
Is a spot where waiting echoes lie;
“Oo-la-la-ee-o!”
Sings the lad below;
“Oo-la-la-ee-o,” the hills reply.

Oo-la-la-ee-o!
Oo-la-la-ee-o!
Oo-la-la-ee-o! La-ee-o!
Hear the crags reply
To his mellow cry:
“Oo-la-la-ee, la-ee-o, la-o!”

When the setting sun
Tells the day is done
Homeward now the sheep and shepherd go;
And the hour is glad
For the weary lad
Singing “Oola, la-ee, la-ee-o!”

Night is coming soon,
With the silver moon
Shedding silver on the mountain high;
“Oo-la-la-ee-o!”
Sings the lad below;
“Oo-la-la-ee-o,” the hills reply.

Oo-la-la-ee-o!
Oo-la-la-ee-o!
Oo-la-la-ee-o! La-ee-o!
Hear the crags reply
To his mellow cry:
“Oo-la-la-ee, la-ee-o, la-o!”
