Bacciami vita mia (Giovanni de Macque)

Hi Claude!

I noticed that you moved this page because of the 'Basciami' spelling. I was a bit curious about it and discovered that it was a valid spelling at the time, and the title with 'sc' has more links than the other with 'cc'(modern Italian is in fact baciami, with just one 'c'). No problem, Carlos. My only reason to do so was the following : according page title spelling with first words of text at bottom of the same page (bacciami). The text is supposed to be the same in the score title (here basciami) *and* voices underlay (here six times bacciami) ;-) Claude 01:54, 29 May 2012 (CDT)

Masses

Um Olhar

Hi Claude! It was a good idea to merge the two choral editions of Um Olhar by Jorge Moreira, but I was thinking that the Soprano solo version deserves a separate page, that's why I restored it. DefaultSort

Hi Claude, I noticed that you started adding a couple of sort keys. Perhaps you might like to use a template I've just created for this very purpose, WorkSorter. It strips numerals and articles from the initial position of the title. I've included articles from most of the Western languages (English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, so far). I found an issue related to PAGENAME returning the apostrophe as an encoded character and had to change the template a bit. Only the categories related to Texts and Translations seem to be wrong now, all others are sorting correctly, maybe it's a question of time for them to update. —Carlos  16:02, 16 August 2012 (CDT)

Hi, Carlos. I'm pretty sure for French (it's my job): Le, La, Les, (and L', as you saw) Un, Une, Des (when it's indefinite plural) must be rejected. I think it's the same in other languages. When I ask somewhere in the forums, for English and other languages, Chuck wrote that he wouldn't search 'Eine kleine Nachtmusik' (search the string across forums) under other word than 'Eine'. LnkTxt Template

Hi Claude, I have added {{LnkTxt|In dulci jubilo|Silcher, Friedrich}} to the newly created page In dulci jubilo (Friedrich Silcher) but on In dulci jubilo the name of Friedrich Silcher does not show up. Hi, Klaus. Thanks for your contribution. It's a question of cache. You just looked at the page some time before. When you reload it, the software 'thinks': it's not necessary to reload it since I have it already. ;-) To force the refreshment of the query, just add, at the end of the line, "?action=purge" (without quotes). PS: I'm still thinking of a way to do what you asked me by email, but I'm not sure this can be easily automated, sorry :/ This kind of thing will only be possible when we implement a single {{Edition}} template for all the edition data.

TextReplace

Hi Claude, I appreciate your fondness for regularity, but I still think that edits like this one are superfluous, besides consuming server resources and unnecessarily enlarging the database (each new edit creates at least two new records in the database). But if you really think this is important, please just let me know which aesthetic changes you want done, and I can run them via scripts directly in the database, ok? 1. For that edition like others it turns around what you've read at this thread: composer line of the addwork form produced during some monthes or one year two ordinary spaces instead of one (only one before 2012).

2. These changes are all but 'aestethics' because the result appears with no difference: that's why you couldn't see it on the Recent changes' line. The action was to replace two spaces by only one but, on showing the lines, two spaces are shown as only one. So you didn't see my edits utility. Just consider the red negative number on the left.

3. No, I don't think it's so important, but, on the Di Lasso's page they were 150 superfluous spaces. 150 bytes less to send on each page opening from now on.

4. You couldn't know that I was thinking to ask you, with advice of others admins, if necessary, to create a 'ClaudeBot' account for these 'Replace text' changes, as your CarlosBot account.

Hi again! You're right, these extra spaces are not apparent to site visitors, just for editors of the page, that's why I didn't bother to remove them. BUT, if I were to do it, I'd probably make the changes directly in the database, as said above. Let me give you a practical example: have a look at this edit diff: [1]. Although it appears that Rob did all that, in fact he only corrected a typo (ChoralWiki:CDPL > ChoralWiki:CPDL). All the other changes were made via database queries (and this is what I'm proposing for the next changes you consider necessary). Just imagine how many TextReplaces would be required to get the same result! We'd have dozens of extra lines in the page history (and the same amount of new copies of the page stored inside the Text table.

In 3, you mentioned one advantage of removing the spaces (less use of bandwidth), but currently all CPDL server accounts offer unlimited bandwidth, so this is not a problem anymore. On the other hand, server disk space is limited, and the larger the databases, the harder it is to keep all the daily backups.

Regarding 4, could you please explain what advantage you see in using a bot account instead of your own? To be frank, I don't think that my bot account is necessary anymore and even think of merging it with my primary account :) The only difference is in RecentChanges, where bot edits are not visible by default. Extension ReplaceText marks its edits as a minor edit so that they may also be hidden from the RC page.)

Sure! To do it, one has to log into the administration page in the server website, open the database manager and run SQL queries like this:

UPDATE wikitext c, wikipage a, wikirevision b
SET c.old_text = REPLACE(c.old_text,'\n\n\n{{Whatlinkshere}}','\n\n{{Whatlinkshere}}')
WHERE a.page_namespace = 0
  AND a.page_latest = b.rev_id
  AND b.rev_text_id = c.old_id
  AND c.old_text like '%\n\n\n{{Whatlinkshere}}%';

The above example removes one extra line before the template {{Whatlinkshere}}. If you have a good knowledge of SQL syntax, we may ask Max to grant you access to this tool. —Carlos (talk) 14:45, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
