Walter Frye
Aliases: Walter Ffry; Walter Ffrye; Walter Frey; Walter Frie
Life
Born: Died: 1474 or 1475 (?) Biography Frye's music survives almost entirely in continental/Burgundian sources but shares the style of Plummer and Bedyngham. He received an annuity from Anne of Exeter (elder sister of Edward IV and Margaret of York who married Charles the Bold of Burgundy) from 1464 to at least 1476. Other glimpses of his life depend on his being the same "Walter cantor" documented at Ely Cathedral 1443 & 1452 and gone by 1465; a Walter Frye joined the London Guild of Parish Clercks in 1456. A will dated 12 August 1474 curiously makes no mention of music but was executed June 1475 by Anne's Treasurer and gives a likely date of death.
