Hello there. I have just added some information to your [[User:Claude Tallet|user page]], the key element being the category which adds your page to [[:Category:CPDL Editors]]. Feel free to ask any questions that you have either on the forum or on [[User talk:Bobnotts|my talk page]]. Many thanks for the new editions and I look forward to more! == New edition not showing up / thanks for the redirect ==

Thanks for that. I'm now crowned as Editor ! Very proud of that. Will do my best to provide right hand made scores. <small>—The preceding [[ChoralWiki:Signatures|unsigned]] comment was added by [[User:Claude T|Claude T]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/Claude T|contribs]]) on 09:12, 6 October 2007.</small>
Hi Claude, thanks for the redirect on my user page (and for bumping my edition of [[As Vesta was from Latmos hill descending (Thomas Weelkes)|As Vesta was]] to the top of the page for chronological ordering--I'll be sure to do that next time).

== Your translations ==
I see my new edition listed when I view [[As Vesta was from Latmos hill descending (Thomas Weelkes)|As Vesta was]] while signed in, but not otherwise. Is this normal? Am I missing something?

Hello there. Thank you very much for getting involved with CPDL: welcome! Please do continue to provide translations of texts; may I suggest that you first check [[:Category:Text pages]] to see if there is already a translation of the text in question? In the cases of texts which have been set many times by composers, a separate text page is created and all texts and translations grouped there. In the case of your translation of [[Beatus vir (Claudio Monteverdi)|Beatus vir by Monteverdi]], there is already a page, [[Psalm 112]] for the text. I have moved your translation to that page and provided a link from [[Beatus vir (Claudio Monteverdi)]] to [[Psalm 112]]. Thanks again and if you have any questions, please feel free to post on the [{{MediaWiki:Discussions-url}} forums] or leave a message on [[User talk:Bobnotts|my talk page]]. --[[User:Bobnotts|Bobnotts]] <small>[[User talk:Bobnotts|'''talk''']]</small> 03:14, 4 October 2007 (PDT)

:You're welcome, Maïa! Recent changes are seen only when connected (logged in). But after a few hours, perhaps a day or so, they remain seeable by anybody.

Not sure it's the spot to answer.
:By the way, we use to add, as a source file, an MXL (compressed musicXML) file with each edition. The reason for that is to be more user-friendly for the users who don't have the same notation software as the editor. If they have a recent software, they can open such file, to adapt the pitch to their choir abilities, to make rehearsal files, etc. You may add any file to your edition clicking on 'Upload a file' in the left pane of any CPDL page, under 'Tools'. You'll also, next time, be able to add an MXL file in lieu of the Sibelius one through the AddWork form. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 06:45, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
I was aware of not translating same text in two pages. Just forgot that Beatus Vir was Psalm 112 for Monteverdi, in his Vespers, mix religious and secular texts.
Thank you for your perfect english : it shows your high level of knowledge and for us "foreigners" it's easier to understand. <small>—The preceding [[ChoralWiki:Signatures|unsigned]] comment was added by [[User:Claude T|Claude T]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/Claude T|contribs]]) on 09:30, 6 October 2007.</small>

== Broken links for Missa 4or vocum 2s tonus ==
== Michael Praetorius - Quem pastores laudavere a 4 ==

Hello.  I just prepended the [[Template:broken]] to the PDF and MIDI links for [[Missa 4or vocum 2s tonus (Joan Cererols)]], since these links do not seem to work.  I hope you will be able to put in the correct links. Also, I moved the score page to have its composer as part of the page title.  Thank you very much. -- [[User:CHGiffen|Chuck]][[User talk:CHGiffen|<small>'''talk'''</small>]]&nbsp;[[User:Charles H. Hi Claude,

Thank you. Just corrected a few moment after.. -- Claude. <small>—The preceding [[ChoralWiki:Signatures|unsigned]] comment was added by [[User:Claude T|Claude T]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/Claude T|contribs]]) on 16:49, 20 October 2007.</small>
there is an existing page of [[Quem pastores laudavere a 4 (Michael Praetorius)]], which first edition claims to be from [[Musae Sioniae, fünffter Theil (Michael Praetorius)]], but the page is not linked to this publication. The two other publications on this page are similar but different, and all three are not any version from "Musae Sioniae V". (In "Musae Sioniae" the numbers 88, 89 and 90 are "Quem pastores a 4", but with different extras).

==Copyright work==
So I added a second page [[Quem pastores laudavere a 4 with children (Michael Praetorius)]], which I linked to "Musae Sioniae V, No 88".
Hi Claude. I've just deleted [[Salve Regina (Alfred Desenclos)]] because the work is subject to copyright in the USA and Europe (at least), as the composer died in 1971. Please refer to [[Help:When does music enter the public domain?|this page]] for details. I strongly recommend that you remove the files from the external server which you have uploaded them to and delete/destroy any personal copies. If you have written permission from the publishers and/or composer's estate to create a new edition of his work, please email me these details and I will restore the page. We welcome your other contributions, however, so please don't feel that we don't appreciate your intentions, but it is illegal to share copyright material. Regards --[[User:Bobnotts|Bobnotts]] <small>[[User talk:Bobnotts|'''talk''']]</small> 03:14, 27 October 2007 (PDT)

It's Ok. I had that in mind yesterday. I just wanted this morning to give the community the opportunity to know of the work of this composer. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] 09:50, 27 October 2007 (PDT)
If I find time I will add No. 89 from the autograph, put it to [[Quem pastores laudavere a 4 (Michael Praetorius)]] and link it to "Musae Sioniae V, No. 89", because it's the most similar source for the existing three editions.

Hello,
== Samuel Babcock ==
I noticed that you've contributed some motets of César Franck (which are missing from all the libraries near San Francisco!) and wonder if you might soon be editing Domine Deus in simplicitate, the offertory for the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica (Nov. 9)?  I had a peek at this at the New York library a few years ago but foolishly didn't make a copy; all that is available here are the Carus re-arangements for SATB...  Regards, [[User:Richard Mix|Richard Mix]] 08:39, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

Hi Claude. Thanks for uploading your editions to the CPDL server - it is definitely preferable to have files stored on the CPDL server to prevent future problems with broken links, etc. Just one thing - could you make sure that you change the link on the composer page as well as on the score page? I've just fixed the links on [[Anton Bruckner]] and [[Claudio Monteverdi]] for [[Pange Lingua (Anton Bruckner)]] and [[O Mirtillo (Claudio Monteverdi)]] and updated the PDF and MIDI links for the complete score of [[Missa 4or vocum 2s tonus (Joan Cererols)]] which you had updated only on the composer page. Again, thanks for these editions and for doing the legwork yourself! Hi Claude, thank you for all your work with the requests! I just don't think it's a good idea to include links in them for paying sites. When someone decides to make a score request at CPDL, it's probably because they want a free alternative to the many paying sites available. Linking to other free resources is ok for me, although it would be even better to create a work page at CPDL linking to this external resource instead. :Hi Carlos. I've corrected that page. Just notice that the paying site linked is the only one appearing on the CPDL main page, saying "who give CPDL a minimum of 8% of every purchase made on their site when linked from here" ;-).[[User:Claude T|Claude]] 22:51, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

::Hi Claude! Yes, I noticed which site is was, but Raf Ornes made this agreement with SheetMusicPlus a long time ago and we're not sure whether it's still valid, and most important, if any payment is being done. But even if the agreement is still valid, it's necessary to use a specially formatted link that includes CPDL's ID if we want CPDL to receive its share in the sell. :Hi, Jonathan, Many thanks for all your contributions! For what I can see, you uploaded three files concerning that work, but I don't see that you filled the AddWork form as before, for the other works. Please go to the Ortell's composer page, click on 'Add new work' on the upper right part. Fill the AddWork form, but no need to upload the files, you did it already. By the way, adding an MXL (compressed XML) file allows more users to use your edition(s), not only those who have Sibelius. ==More French text requests==
Claude. Thanks for this. My version of Sibelius (5.2.5) can only import, not export XML files. The cost of upgrading the software, which in all other respects does everything I want, is disproportionate. However, I will keep an eye out for a possible solution [[User:Jgoodliffe|Jgoodliffe]] ([[User talk:Jgoodliffe|talk]]) 09:51, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
Hi Claude. Thanks again for all the French and Latin texts you've been adding - having the text of a work available really improves CPDL as a resource for singers and choir directors. Since you've exhausted the contents of [[ChoralWiki:French text requests]], you could have a look through [[:Category:Text and translations requests]] to find French works which need their text adding, if you wish to continue your excellent work. --[[User:Bobnotts|Bobnotts]] <small>[[User talk:Bobnotts|'''talk''']]</small> 16:22, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
:Thanks, Bob, for that. It's a good idea. I think I could begin with Mozart's 'Alma Dei creatoris' I sung some day. But just have a look at the page you mentioned, to see more than a dozen of these "multiworks" pages, with title beginning with a number. - [[User:Claude T|Claude]] 17:32, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
::Hey Claude, yesterday I thought that there were just two "French text requests" - and I did them, even though I don't speak french, and the "Passion selon St. Jean" took much time (I hope, everything is allright!). And now I see that there are more than 30 (!) new "French text requests" - really depressing!! ;-))) Thanks for your work, go on! I assume that you like completing CPDL, don't you? So do I! I wish you a niche weekend from Germany (Bad Nauheim is north of Frankfurt), Martin.
:::Hallo, Martin, I thank you very much for having arranged the last French text I left 'to do' (because it was a long text). When I went to the [http://choralwiki.net/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Text_and_translations_requests Text requests page], I saw French titles not appearing on the French text request page, asked explanation to Robert Nottingham, and changed the template so it revealed the 31 works you saw. There will be no more increasing of the list. Again, thank you for your work, I'm not so good at German or Latin to do so in other languages. Hi Claude. Thank you for your continued work in adding texts and translations of works here at CPDL. If I might make one request - when you're adding links to text pages, please use [[Template:LnkTxt]] only when the list of settings on the text page is automatically generated. In all other cases, please use [[Template:LinkText]]. You can see which text pages you should use [[Template:LnkTxt]] for [[Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:TextSettingsList|here]]. For the most part, you should use [[Template:LinkText]]. Many thanks! --[[User:Bobnotts|Bobnotts]] <small>[[User talk:Bobnotts|'''talk''']]</small> 22:38, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
== Valls Magnificat a 8 (incomplete) #13405 ==
:Well, so, there are only 22 texts that can be reached by LinkTxt template. Why these and no other ? Also, when I add a LnkText template, is it possible to generate automatically the works/composer entry in the settings list for that text ?[[User:Claude T|Claude]] 08:55, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
::Using [[Template:LnkTxt]] and automated settings lists was an experiment by Carlos or Chuck (I can't remember who started it) which has subsequently been abandoned to some degree or other because it doesn't allow for the level of flexibility that we usually want on such text pages. For example, on [[Psalm 150]] we have a list of settings then a list of information about each setting - which verses it sets, what language it's in, etc. Basically, it's a big mess... --[[User:Bobnotts|Bobnotts]] <small>[[User talk:Bobnotts|'''talk''']]</small> 14:02, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

:::Hi Claude, let me try to explain it: The initial idea to use [[template:LnkTxt]] to generate an automated listing for text pages was mine, and a couple of pages were created in this new format as an experiment. Chuck decided to try it on a [[Psalm 150|Psalm page]], but psalm text pages do have their peculiarities and so it was decided not to use LnkTxt on them. BUT using it for all other works is still ok. So, if you see 3 or more works which share '''exactly''' the same text (or with very slight differences), you are encoraged to create a text page for them. The procedure is simple:
Claude
::#Replace on one of the works page <nowiki>{{NoText}}</nowiki> by <nowiki>{{LnkTxt|<text page title>|<composer surname>}}</nowiki>.
::#When you save the page, the <text page title> will appear as a red link. Click on it to create this new text page.
::#On the page that opens, paste the following and click Save: <nowiki>{{subst:ChoralWiki:Text template}}</nowiki>
::#Edit the page again and ''voilà!'', you have a new text page properly formatted, just waiting for your text and translations.
::#As soon as you click on Preview, the first work to which you applied LnkTxt on step 1 should already appear on the settings list.
:::If you have any doubt, just ask me; if you simply prefer not to use this tool, feel free not to! :) —[[User:Carlos|Carlos]] [http://choralwiki.net/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Carlos {{filepath:Email.gif}}] 18:17, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
::::Hi, Carlos, I tried your way of doing. It seems to work well : eleven works with same text and translation on that [http://choralwiki.net/wiki/index.php/Puer_natus_in_Bethlehem new text page]. Some Bytes less on the server. :::::Oh, yes Claude! You just missed the sort key by composer surname ;) <br>There's just one other point that I wanted to discuss with you: The ''Puer natus'' text has two main versions, one completely in Latin and one macarronic in Latin/German. We must decide how to deal with these two versions. Shall they stay on the same page? If I'm not mistaken, the macarronic text is used only by Praetorius. [[User:Carlos|Carlos]] 14:31, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Could you please rename this work "Magnificat a 8 tertii toni". I have discovered a complete version of it which will shortly be uploaded. Merci bien!
::::::Just have a look at the 3 scores which are on the same [http://choralwiki.net/wiki/index.php/Puer_natus_in_Bethlehem_(Michael_Praetorius) discussed page]: On Christian Mondrup's score, there is German text that wasn't with the Latin one, on Marco Cipoo's, I doesn't see any word in German! On the Abel di Marco edition, I doesn't see any word at all, nor any note because I'm unable to see any score of this editor (neither Mac nor Window, neither IE nor Firefox)! If you can, just explain me how! Yesterday, I just let the Latin words that were here and added a link to the general common text.

:::Hi Claude, I've added a PDF/MIDI for the Abel di Marco edition (you need a plugin installed to see his page). As you noticed, the other two editions had different music or text and were moved to independent pages, ok! [[User:Carlos|Carlos]] 18:31, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Jonathan [[User:Jgoodliffe|Jgoodliffe]] ([[User talk:Jgoodliffe|talk]]) 22:24, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
::::Carlos, the problem is that I've not been able to get the necessary plugin: it's an old (2002) SmartMusicViewer.class in Java impossible to install (neither on PC -Xp or Vista- nor Mac) because CodaMusic disappeared and all the links point to the successive FinaleViewer, which works perfectly well to see Finale files you posess on your disk but doesn't show the Abel diMarco's files that stay on his site (right click is there disabled). The whole thing is that among a thousand works in Latin on CPDL claiming "No text" there are about 500 in this case. So, thank you for having showed one score tonight. Sorry to have to harp on about this, Claude, but I'm not sure that you've quite got the message, judging by these edits: [http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?title=Aperite_mihi_portas_%28Giovanni_Francesco_Anerio%29&diff=prev&oldid=165077 (1)] [http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?title=Aperite_mihi_portas_%28Giovanni_Andrea_Draconio%29&diff=next&oldid=165073 (2)] [http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php?title=Attendite_popule_%28Ascanio_Trombetti%29&diff=prev&oldid=165085 (3)] Since you've been using [[Template:LnkTxt]] on those pages when you should be using [[Template:LinkText]]. I appreciate that it's a very confusing situation. Normally, I'd just correct the mistakes and not bother contacting the contributor but since you do so much on CPDL, it's worth me trying to explain it, I think! I'm not sure how else to explain it, other than what I said above -

Hi Claude, I happened to notice that Luc Jacobs had been active on cpdl today, so I left a message on his talk page (in Dutch) alerting him to the missing link on [[Nova! Nova! (Luc Jakobs)|this]] page.  There was actually another one of his scores missing, but since it is in Dutch, you probably hadn't noticed.  I'll let you know if and when he replies.  Still going mighty strong with those texts, I see.  I hope to be able to join in from next week onward.  Keep it up! == Requesting mergers ==
I have 4 settings of the Benedictus by this composer extracted from his masses. Is it OK to put them all on one page (with separate score numbers) or should they each be on a separate page?

Hi Claude. Thanks for suggesting mergers, [[Talk:Pie Jesu (organ version) (Franz Bühler)|this page for example]]. These little tweaks to the site definitely need doing. The only thing is that if you just write a message on the talk page, the admins might miss your request. Would you mind putting [[Template:Merge]] at the top of the score page(s)? That way, the page is added to [[:Category:Merge requests]] so it's easier to find. To use the merge template, just type: <tt><nowiki>{{merge|</nowiki>''other page name''}}</tt> Thanks! --[[User:Bobnotts|Bobnotts]] <small>[[User talk:Bobnotts|'''talk''']]</small> 12:17, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi Claude. Just a friendly note - I've noticed that you often edit parts of pages separately, such as correcting score icons then adding the text of the work in a separate edit. I just wanted to remind you that you can edit the whole page by clicking on the "edit" button at the top of the page, rather than the "edit" links next to each section. Of course, there's nothing to stop you from editing each section of the page in turn, but I thought you might find it quicker to edit the whole page at once. Claude

Hi Claude. I have a favour to ask. Since a lot of the contributions to CPDL are sent through the add works form and many contributors have been submitting the form several times for the same edition, we have a number of duplicate CPDL catalogue numbers being created, a situation which isn't ideal by my reckoning. Some time ago I added the following text to [[ChoralWiki:Add Music|the page]] to try to get people to not make duplicate submissions:
As well as the Warlock setting of this title Mick and I have produced a reconstructed version of the original music. See http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/As_ever_I_saw_(Anonymous) . For some reason this does not appear on the list of recent works. Can you correct this?

:"PLEASE DO NOT COMPLETE THE "ADD WORKS" FORM MORE THAN ONCE FOR THE SAME EDITION. Once you have submitted the form, a unique CPDL number is generated which becomes obsolete if the form is run a second time for the same edition. Volunteers will receive the form which you submitted and post it on the wiki in due course - please be patient. If you forgot to include some information in the form the first time you submitted it, please email addscore (at) cpdl.org with the details rather than submitting the form again. Thank you."

However, some contributors have continued to do so, I suspect mostly because of the language barrier. I wonder if you would mind translating this text into French (and any other languages that you are able to translate to) and I will add this translation to the page as well. I'm posting a similar message on Joachim and Max's talk pages so we should have Italian, Dutch and French covered. Any additional languages would be a bonus. Claude, I see you have effectively managed this work on CPDL. Would you object if I were to edit it just to highlight that it is not "complete", flagging missing movements (such as the prologue) and noting that those movements have been reconctructed (e.g. by Thurston Dart) although they are in copyright so cannot appear on CPDL.

== …without leaving redirect ==

Hi Claude,
I know you're mindful of clutter, and I've taken to trying not to leave too many redirects when moving pages myself. "What links here" is useful though to avoid redlinks on text- and other hand-maintained pages. I'd be happy to hear what you think about [[Help talk:Style conventions#Apostophe's]] though! [[User:Richard Mix|Richard Mix]] ([[User talk:Richard Mix|talk]]) 02:13, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
:The use of an apostrophe is the responsability of the editor and I respect it.
:1. The question here was about typography: using a curved apostrophe.
:a. The curved apostrophe is typographically correct and is used for printed material. But as I read in the page you pointed:
Although ubiquitous in typeset material, the typographic apostrophe ( ’ ) is rather difficult to enter on a computer, since it does not have its own key on a standard keyboard.
:Until yesterday a user wanting to search for works like [[L'aura che'l verde Lauro (Luca Marenzio)]] or [[I' piango (Luca Marenzio)]] shouldn't have found them easily, even on the Marenzio['s] page, the creator of that pages having used a curly apostrophe in the title.
:b. As our Wiki system rejects the curved apostrophe with the diacritics after Z in the alphabetic sorting, such titles weren't found where expected.

:2. As you (and Carlos), I'm "trying not to leave too many redirects when moving pages". So I leaved the curly apostrophe without redirect, because the redirect became superfluous;

:3. Perhaps do you imply that I should have searched for links to the old typography throughout all the database. Anyway, ninety percents of composer pages are automatized and such a change is therefore instantly reflected on them. I'm in favo[u]r of automatizing ALL of the front composer pages (not removing other lists but putting them just a click away). The ten percents of composer pages that are manually maintained should be maintained manually by those who don't want them to be automatized.

== Anton Bruckner - Tantum ergo ==

Dear Claude,

There is apparently some confusions about Anton Bruckner's settings of the Pange lingua and Tantum ergo.

Bruckner composed two settings of the Pange lingua: WAB 31 and WAB 33 (phrygian, with Tantum ergo) and eight Tantum ergo: chronologically WAB 32 (wrongly issued by Grasberger as "Pange lingua, WAB 32), WAB 43, the four settings of WAB 41, WAB 42 and WAB 44.

You have wrongly reverted "Tantum ergo, WAB 32 (Anton Bruckner)" to "Tantum ergo, WAB 31 (Anton Bruckner)". I have reverted it.

There are currently two different pages on WAB 32: "Tantum ergo in D Major, WAB 32 (Anton Bruckner)" and "Tantum ergo, WAB 32 (Anton Bruckner)". These two pages should be merged.

Claude, for some reason, Capella produces a corrupt mxl file, with the bass missing. Seth spotted this and I tried reloading, but it didn't work. The same thing was true of the version you uploaded. I'll try playing around with the format, but I think the file needs deleting if it has errors.
Hope you are surviving the boredom of Covid. At least, the number of contibutions stays high!

:Yes, all well here: more time for site maintenance ;-) [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 10:17, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

It occurred to me that it might be a problem with the multiple curved braces in the system, since I seem to recall that earlier unsolved problems involved my editions with multiple braces. So I produced a revised version without braces. However, when I uploaded the mxl file, deleting the previous one, and then downloaded the mxl file from the works page, it was the old version that appeared! [[User:Jamesgibb|Jamesgibb]] ([[User talk:Jamesgibb|talk]]) 10:56, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
:I've seen that in the past. Machines on Internet don't resend a file if it has the same name on your disk, even if its content is different. The solution is to delete the previous version in the list. Using a different browser generally does the trick. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 11:33, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Right, I've changed the name of the mxl file before uploading and that seems to have solved the problem! Didn't need to change browsers. Do you still have a list of the my uploads where we had  similar problem withe the mxl file?[[User:Jamesgibb|Jamesgibb]] ([[User talk:Jamesgibb|talk]])

I think there is a problem with Capella when creating mxl files that have more than one curly brace. I've just uploaded a version of The Goslings (Bridge) and when I checked the file that has been uploaded, the stave descriptions were misplaced. So I'll adjust for that in the future.[[User:Jamesgibb|Jamesgibb]] ([[User talk:Jamesgibb|talk]]) 15:06, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

== new member help ==

Dear Claude, I am new to CPDL. I am a collector of old music and also a composer and arranger.
I have transcribed into Finale 2014 many early works. I have just upgraded to the new finale 27 but have not updated my 2014 files as I wanted to make sure before I start that work that I am doing it the right way to make it available on CPDL or some other platform.

Among many other compositions, I have transcribed the following complete collections:

1. William Boyce: Cathedral Music Vol. 1-3 first edition. I have done this as sort of an Urtext leaving the original clefs, time signatures, etc. I have also typed in the figured bass as provided by Boyce

2. William Boyce / Vincent Novello: Novello's organ realization (1850s) of Boyce's Cathedral Music Vol. 1-3

3. Samuel Arnold: Cathedral Music Vol. 1-3 first edition. I have done this as sort of an Urtext leaving the original clefs, time signatures, etc. I have also typed in the figured bass as provided by Arnold

4. Samuel Arnold: Organ realization by Samuel Arnold of his Cathedral Music (about 1790)

5. Maurice Greene 40 Anthems first edition -- again as an Urtext

I have many more but these are a sample.

I want to know how to proceed and have the following questions.
a. Is this the right platform for these old compositions?
b. Finale 27 stores the files in a **.musx file. It also allows an export to: **.PDF,  **MusicXML, and **MIDI files. Do I submit all 4 file types?
c. I also do transcribe and translate old Spanish documents for the Cibola project at Berkeley U. of California. For those projects I take high resolution photos of the individual pages and provide them for the fellow researchers. Does CPDL also want that for these old documents?
d. How do I proceed? Should I try to submit one of my transcriptions and then ask you to edit/check the work before I follow with the others?

Sorry to have so many questions but I am a neophyte and want to do this work in the best fashion.

:Hi, Mike. Thanks for coming to us and willing to contribute. This is the right place, concerning all choral/vocal music.
:As you can see, we already have a composer page for [[William Boyce]] and other composers you cited. So, the straight way to take is to check (on composer page) if the work has already a work page. If yes, just click on "Add new edition" (upper right part of the work page). If not, just click on "Add new work" (upper right part of the composer page).
:AddWork form that opens has to be filled, including picking files to upload (there is a line for one of each file type: PDF, MXL (compressed MusicXML), and so on). I consider that these two formats are recommanded and are sufficient for most of our users, should they be conductors or singers.
:Our general architecture is based on one independant work page for each composition, that is, containing all movements of the work and all editions contributed by all our editors. Work pages are automatically linked from/to their corresponding composer page.
:You'll also see that we already have publication pages as [[Cathedral Music, Volume 1 (William_Boyce)]]. A newly edited work page appears on its corresponding publication(s) when the 'Pub[lished]' field of the AddWork form is correctly filled. That can be adjusted later.
:About [manuscript] facsimiles, particularly of instrumental music, please consider IMSLP procedures.
:Receive our warm welcome in advance for your contributions. Don't hesitate to ask for more. [[User:Claude T|Claude]] ([[User talk:Claude T|talk]]) 13:57, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

== Repeated duplicate Add work forms submitted under your name. ==

Hi Claude.
Since about an hour an a half ago, there have been four essentially duplicate Add work forms submitted for " Abschiedslied der Zugvögel, Op. 63 No. 2 (Felix Mendelssohn)", all supposedly by you, with manual wiki code submission option: yes.  The "user/submitter" has used your name and two of the three email addresses that I have on file for you. The CPDL numbers thus used are 70040-70043.  But none of these has actually been posted.  I'm not sure what to do about this or or how we might block further malicious submissions like this.  Anyway, I thought you need to know. -- [[User:CHGiffen|Chuck]][[User talk:CHGiffen|<small>'''talk'''</small>]]&nbsp;[[User:Charles H. :Hi... (Your first name here ;-). Thanks for your contributions to this site. You are right, only one line is given for a "Music notation file". I guess that programmers have thought that one would upload an .mscz file OR an MXL one [the MXL one being usable by quite all users, the MSCZ one only for MuseScore users]. So, feel free to add only the MXL file. If you want, you may also upload manually your MSCZ file, adding then a link to it, copied/pasted from one of the links in the edition.
:By the way, I must say that all users may use only their nickname to download files, write anything,… until they create a (copyrighted) edition, whatever the copyright is, even a no-copyright one. All people may know who has the rights or has freed the copyright. So, if you agree, let me know what [First name-Name] should be used for editor. Your talk page will ever remain as "mirabilos". ::I’d rather supply the MSCZ file as well because that’s the original and MusicXML export is… incomplete, I guess. But I can easily add both, I generate them already anyway.
::Copyright law specifically permits pseudonymous publications (https://dejure.org/gesetze/UrhG/66.html and §10 as well), and we can even have them added in our ID cards in Europe, so it will remain as this. [[User:Mirabilos|mirabilos]] ([[User talk:Mirabilos|talk]]) 17:54, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

I stumbled a bit by adding a descriptor to the Anonymous composer of second title that I submitted - sorry about that.

I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble to fix that, or easier to leave it as is:

I should have left it as simply "Anonymous" and put the other notes in the editor remarks.

Dear Claude,

Something was going wrong with uploaden de PDF of my new entry titled Psaume 23.
I tried to reverse to the version of 24 feb 2024 16:00 (the second loaded). Got however the comment, that that one is exectly the same as the last loaded 24 feb 2024 16:15, which certainly is not the case. For instance, I added my year of birth in the heading.
A new upload from the version of 16:00 (the correct one) also failed.
Could you try to restore the version of 24 feb 2024 16:00?
Thanks in advance.

New edition not showing up / thanks for the redirect

Hi Claude, thanks for the redirect on my user page (and for bumping my edition of As Vesta was to the top of the page for chronological ordering--I'll be sure to do that next time).

I see my new edition listed when I view As Vesta was while signed in, but not otherwise. Is this normal? Am I missing something?

Thanks!
Maia.mcc (talk) 04:12, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

You're welcome, Maïa! Recent changes are seen only when connected (logged in). But after a few hours, perhaps a day or so, they remain seeable by anybody.
By the way, we use to add, as a source file, an MXL (compressed musicXML) file with each edition. Claude (talk) 06:45, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Michael Praetorius - Quem pastores laudavere a 4

Hi Claude,

there is an existing page of Quem pastores laudavere a 4 (Michael Praetorius), which first edition claims to be from Musae Sioniae, fünffter Theil (Michael Praetorius), but the page is not linked to this publication. The two other publications on this page are similar but different, and all three are not any version from "Musae Sioniae V". (In "Musae Sioniae" the numbers 88, 89 and 90 are "Quem pastores a 4", but with different extras).

So I added a second page Quem pastores laudavere a 4 with children (Michael Praetorius), which I linked to "Musae Sioniae V, No 88".

If I find time I will add No. 89 from the autograph, put it to Quem pastores laudavere a 4 (Michael Praetorius) and link it to "Musae Sioniae V, No. 89", because it's the most similar source for the existing three editions. User:Volker Seibt (talk) 13:16, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedia version of this guy as a bishop, not a composer

Samuel Gavitt Babcock (1851–1938) was an American bishop in the Protestant Episcopal Church. He graduated from the Episcopal Theological School at Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1891. After holding pastorates in Rhode Island and Massachusetts he was archdeacon of Massachusetts from 1903 to 1913, when he was elected suffragan bishop of Massachusetts. --Music4Ever (talk) 17:32, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

Qui habitat by Ortells

Claude, I entered the details of this work today but after doing this I did not get the usual email with the code to use in creating the new work. Did I do something wrong? Jgoodliffe (talk) 17:12, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Jonathan, Many thanks for all your contributions! Feel free to upload the MXL file in lieu of the Sibelius one, if you don't want to upload both files. Kind Regards, Claude (talk) 21:37, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Claude. Thanks for this. My version of Sibelius (5.2.5) can only import, not export XML files. The cost of upgrading the software, which in all other respects does everything I want, is disproportionate. However, I will keep an eye out for a possible solution Jgoodliffe (talk) 09:51, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

…without leaving redirect

Hi Claude, I know you're mindful of clutter, and I've taken to trying not to leave too many redirects when moving pages myself. "What links here" is useful though to avoid redlinks on text- and other hand-maintained pages. I'd be happy to hear what you think about Help talk:Style conventions#Apostophe's though! Richard Mix (talk) 02:13, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

The use of an apostrophe is the responsability of the editor and I respect it.
1. The question here was about typography: using a curved apostrophe.
a. The curved apostrophe is typographically correct and is used for printed material. But as I read in the page you pointed:
Although ubiquitous in typeset material, the typographic apostrophe ( ’ ) is rather difficult to enter on a computer, since it does not have its own key on a standard keyboard.
Until yesterday a user wanting to search for works like L'aura che'l verde Lauro (Luca Marenzio) or I' piango (Luca Marenzio) shouldn't have found them easily, even on the Marenzio['s] page, the creator of that pages having used a curly apostrophe in the title.
b. As our Wiki system rejects the curved apostrophe with the diacritics after Z in the alphabetic sorting, such titles weren't found where expected.
2. As you (and Carlos), I'm "trying not to leave too many redirects when moving pages". So I leaved the curly apostrophe without redirect, because the redirect became superfluous;
3. The ten percents of composer pages that are manually maintained should be maintained manually by those who don't want them to be automatized.

difficulty creating new score pages

Claude,

When I try entering a new score page I get this error message "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or create this page". Am I doing something wrong? Also I now find I can log on in Microsoft Edge but not in FireFox. Can you help? Jgoodliffe (talk) 10:02, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Jonathan,
I'm not a specialist, but I guess you're not logged in, when you see that. Please, try to type an 's' after 'http' in the URL address bar above, or a complete 'https://' string before the page title, if you don't see anything before 'www.cpdl.org'. I hope this helps. Claude (talk) 12:52, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
Claude,
Thanks for your help. The score pages mysteriously appeared overnight. In trying to get the system to work yesterday I am afraid I seem to have created 4 redundant music numbers - 697 to 700. Jgoodliffe (talk) 11:27, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
No problem, Jonathan. From time to time, we need such unused CPDL numbers, to split an existing edition or some other reason ;-) Claude (talk) 12:33, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Anton Bruckner - Tantum ergo

Best regards, Meneerke bloem (talk) 15:48, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

My common.js

Hi Claude, you have delete my user Javascript page, the reason was assumed spam/vandalism. This javascript page only affects my own useraccount and nobody else or anything else on this wiki. Why would I want to vandalize or spam my own user account? I just added a gadget which I use for my useraccounts on many other wikis, I am storing the code centralized in a wiki where I have admin rights. This is where the include-statement comes from, there is absolute no harm in it. If you do not want users create their own javascript page a bureaucrat can to change the wiki's central settings, Manuela (talk) 14:16, 21 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Manuela,
Just after I removed the script (the reason had to be choosen in a short list, not quite appropriate, though), I wanted to restore it. A bug in the system didn't let me succeed in that. I then took advice by my fellow admin Max who mainly wrote: "I get the same error: I guess that there may be a bug or some special configuration to do when handling pages containing Javascript code.", "It seems this user registered in 2016, and only used our wiki to test wiki code probably used somewhere else. The Javascript code entered is a custom code used on another wiki " and "It's probably unharmful, however I'm not that happy that someone uses our wiki as if it were their test wiki...". Claude (talk) 14:35, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
I am not using this wiki as testwiki, I have added some scores in 2016. I wanted to add more then, for some reason which I do not remember I did not continue, maybe because I started to create my own wikis, Manuela (talk) 20:54, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Perhaps that page could help you: User:Claude_T/DPL_queries/LY I suppose that scripts are allowed only by admins, here as on all other wikis. Claude (talk) 21:24, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the link, Claude. I could not figure out an easy way to find all Lilypond scores, and Lilypond code is displayed as text without syntax highlighting, I guess this were the reasons why I stopped editing her, greetings Manuela (talk) 08:14, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Jamesgibb (talk) 08:12, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Ah, Ok, feel free to remove link and file itself.
Yes, all well here: more time for site maintenance ;-) Claude (talk) 10:17, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Jamesgibb (talk) 10:56, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

I've seen that in the past. Machines on Internet don't resend a file if it has the same name on your disk, even if its content is different. The solution is to delete the previous version in the list. Using a different browser generally does the trick. Claude (talk) 11:33, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Right, I've changed the name of the mxl file before uploading and that seems to have solved the problem! Didn't need to change browsers. Do you still have a list of the my uploads where we had similar problem withe the mxl file?Jamesgibb (talk)

I think there is a problem with Capella when creating mxl files that have more than one curly brace. I've just uploaded a version of The Goslings (Bridge) and when I checked the file that has been uploaded, the stave descriptions were misplaced. So I'll adjust for that in the future.Jamesgibb (talk) 15:06, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

i don't retrieve the list of missing MXL files. I remember there were just a few. I opened the file mentioned above, under Finale, and it seems correct to me, including a (singing) Bass line. Claude (talk) 16:04, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Odes to Music

Claude

Is it worth having a specific category for "odes to music". These would include, for instance, Schubert's "An die musik" and Purcell's "Music for a while". There are quite a few of these on CPDL already and I am working on one by the composer Maurice Greene at the moment. Jgoodliffe (talk) 12:03, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

Sorry, I've no advice about the question. Please try the forums or another admin. Claude (talk) 13:02, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

New works remain in cache

Hi Claude, I'm rather new to CPDL, so I'm wondering why my last 4 new work contributions (since June 13) remain visible in the cache as well as in the normal list. I saw you did some small editing on my editions which is quite OK.

Hi, Wytze, on your composer page, I clicked on ‘Edit’, then on ‘Save’ and renewed the operation. BTW, three of your files remain orphans (they aren't linked from/to any 'Requiem' work page). Please create the corresponding work page soon. Claude (talk) 12:06, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi, Wytze. Thanks for your Requiem. Claude (talk) 14:57, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

New edition PDF cannot be opened

Hello, Claude. I've been reworking the Distler Jahrkreis. At No. 11 (Wie Schön leucht't) I cannot open the PDF that I recently uploaded. I tried to upload it again, but it was rejected as an identical file. Also, with No. 1 (O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf), I cannot update the MXL file, also rejected as identical. If you have and suggestions, I'd be grateful for them.

Jim Pearson

Hi, Jim. 1. At No. 11, We can see, clicking on the white icon, just right of the PDF one (that leads to the file history: File:Distler11WieSchön.pdf) that you uploaded under the same name and extension different files that aren't PDF ones. I've just reverted your uploads to the last correct PDF version. 2. At No. 1, I've removed the MXL file to make way for you to upload and link it. To update further files, just let me know. Kind Regards, Claude.

new member help

Mike Wallen Mike Wallen (talk) 12:47, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Mike. Thanks for coming to us and willing to contribute. This is the right place, concerning all choral/vocal music.
As you can see, we already have a composer page for William Boyce and other composers you cited. So, the straight way to take is to check (on composer page) if the work has already a work page. If yes, just click on "Add new edition" (upper right part of the work page). If not, just click on "Add new work" (upper right part of the composer page).
AddWork form that opens has to be filled, including picking files to upload (there is a line for one of each file type: PDF, MXL (compressed MusicXML), and so on). I consider that these two formats are recommanded and are sufficient for most of our users, should they be conductors or singers.
Our general architecture is based on one independant work page for each composition, that is, containing all movements of the work and all editions contributed by all our editors. Work pages are automatically linked from/to their corresponding composer page.
You'll also see that we already have publication pages as Cathedral Music, Volume 1 (William_Boyce). A newly edited work page appears on its corresponding publication(s) when the 'Pub[lished]' field of the AddWork form is correctly filled. That can be adjusted later.
About [manuscript] facsimiles, particularly of instrumental music, please consider IMSLP procedures.
Receive our warm welcome in advance for your contributions. Don't hesitate to ask for more. Claude (talk) 13:57, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Missa Quand'io pens'al martire (Orlando di Lasso)

Hi Claude,

I've noticed you adding MXL files and, not yet having braved PhotoScore, wonder if I might ask you for Missa Quand'io pens'al martire (Orlando di Lasso) for a friend who wants a transposition? Regards, Richard Mix (talk) 02:04, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Richard. I don't add MXL files to PDFs under 'Personal' copyright, sorry. Claude (talk) 07:52, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

Page title wrong / cannot move page

Hi Claude,

The page title for Weinachts Oratorium (Christmas Oratorio), BWV_248 (Johann Sebastian Bach) has an ugly spelling mistake "Weinachts Oratorium" (should be spelled "Weihnachtsoratorium" with an "h" and it is just one word). It seems I don't have the right to move the page, but maybe you can? Christof Chen

Thanks for spotting this. Done. By the way, you can sign your words with four tildes in a row. ;-) Claude (talk) 14:38, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

Alleluia: Maria Dei Genitrix (Adam Rener)

Hi Claude, I noticed you moved this page to Alleluia: Maria Dei Genitrix (D-Ju MS 33) (Adam Rener). Disambiguation would be needed if he wrote other Alleluia: Maria Dei Genitrix that are found in different sources, but is that the case here? NG lists only the one. Richard Mix (talk) 08:44, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

I agree, Richard, so I went back to the previous page title. Claude T (talk) 10:46, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

Repeated duplicate Add work forms submitted under your name.

-- Chucktalk Giffen 17:10, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Chuck. It's me. I try to create a new edition and I don't see anything appear on the corresponding work page nor in my mailbox(es), even in addscore@cpdl.org! Claude T (talk) 17:19, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi Claude. I just forwarded a copy of the CPDL 70040 submission. I hope you get it!! -- Chucktalk Giffen 17:44, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, Chuck, I've been able to add my edition at Abschiedslied der Zugvögel, Op. 63 No. 2 (Felix Mendelssohn). Claude T (talk) 18:55, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

Help with editing a page

Hello,

I uploaded a work Mia vita and made a duplicate page with the title Madrigal under Salamone Rossi. Is it possible to delete the Madrigal page?

Thank you, Jameshiggs (talk) 23:51, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Geoffrey (GeoffG (talk) has already removed the page. Thanks to him. Claude T (talk) 06:28, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Strip the willow

Apologies for creating two unrequired pages (The willow song (Christopher Shaw) and a composer page in my name. This was due to the recurring trouble of aggressive auto completion. I have raised a note on the forum: i'm afraid the the superfluous pages need to be deleted, not further incorporated.Cjshawcj (talk) 19:33, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

Unhosted composers

Claude,

I want to upload a score by Daniel Purcell who is classified as an "unhosted" composer. The option to "add new work" is not available. How should I add the new score?

Thanks for your help

Jonathan Jgoodliffe (talk) 09:41, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Jonathan. I’ve removed the « unhosted » tag. Let me know if there’s another issue left. Claude T (talk) 10:59, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Claude, that seems tyo have solved the problem, thanks Jonathan Jgoodliffe (talk) 11:57, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

MXL addition

Thanks… I was unaware I could add both MSCZ and MXL (the form didn’t give me that option), and this is my first upload here. Perhaps either the form could be amended or this could be mentioned in the docs?

mirabilos (talk) 17:18, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi...
By the way, I must say that all users may use only their nickname to download files, write anything,… until they create a (copyrighted) edition, whatever the copyright is, even a no-copyright one. All people may know who has the rights or has freed the copyright. So, if you agree, let me know what [First name-Name] should be used for editor. Your talk page will ever remain as "mirabilos". Claude T (talk) 17:43, 28 December 2022 (UTC)
I’d rather supply the MSCZ file as well because that’s the original and MusicXML export is… incomplete, I guess. But I can easily add both, I generate them already anyway.
Copyright law specifically permits pseudonymous publications (https://dejure.org/gesetze/UrhG/66.html and §10 as well), and we can even have them added in our ID cards in Europe, so it will remain as this. mirabilos (talk) 17:54, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Modification de fichier XML

Bonjour Claude,

Excellent, merci, Rémi, de me l'avoir signalé. J'ai supprimé mon fichier obsolète. Claude T (talk) 07:24, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Du lenkest alles (Philippe Goibaud-Dubois)

Dear Mr. Tallet,

thank You for Your correction of Du lenkest alles (Philippe Goibaud-Dubois). May You correct a little mistake which i have done? The title must be "Du lenkest alle" (without s in alles). I cannot correct this myself methinks. Thank You and best regards Michael Hauber. Michael Hauber (talk) 14:27, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Done. ;-) Claude T (talk) 15:10, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

MXL File

Hi Claude, thank you for your advice. I prepare my music files with LilyPond, thus I don't have an MusicXML-Export. Sorry. Greetings Burkard (Temuta) Temuta

Ah, Ok then ;-) Claude T (talk) 07:10, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Thank You

Thank you for your welcome, Claude!

I stumbled a bit by adding a descriptor to the Anonymous composer of second title that I submitted - sorry about that.

I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble to fix that, or easier to leave it as is: Anonymous (Medieval Organum, c. 1000-1100)

I should have left it as simply "Anonymous" and put the other notes in the editor remarks.

At any rate, thank you for your work and your hospitality.

John Jstromgren (talk) 23:57, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi, John, you're welcome! "Category:Anonymous compositions" includes already 1,645 works, so specifications, often about publication source, have already been included in composer name (between parentheses) by users.
Kind Regards, Claude. Claude T (talk) 07:20, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Psaume 23 by Wytze Oostenbrug

Dear Claude,

Something was going wrong with uploaden de PDF of my new entry titled Psaume 23. I tried to reverse to the version of 24 feb 2024 16:00 (the second loaded). Got however the comment, that that one is exectly the same as the last loaded 24 feb 2024 16:15, which certainly is not the case. For instance, I added my year of birth in the heading. A new upload from the version of 16:00 (the correct one) also failed. Could you try to restore the version of 24 feb 2024 16:00? Thanks in advance. Wytze Oostenbrug

Hi, Wytze. Done ;-) I've just had to click on the second line of the file history table that appears when you click on the white icon just right from the regarding PDF icon. You should have been able to do that yourself. Kind Regards. One can sign his words here typing four tildes in a row, producing the following time stamp and signature: Claude T (talk) 14:40, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
Hi Claude, That was just what I have done also, but it doesn't work with the version of 16:00, that is really the correct one. That is the second loaded version. Reloading that version gives the error, that it is the same as the current version, which is certainly is not (other size). Perhaps you can remove all loadings after the second (from 24 feb 2024 16:00) or otherwise remove all pdf, so I can add the right one from fresh.Wytzecpdl (talk) 16:27, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
