Lungo le chiare linfe,
Del famoso Sebeto,
Cho dolce mormorando,
Fende I gigli e le rose,
Tra mille amanti vaghi e mille ninfe,
Deele sue glorie lieto,
Sotto mentite vesti Amor si pose,
Ma con una danzando,
Quasi da novo sole,
Restò da suoi begl’occhi arso e ferito
All’hora il choro unito,
Gridò, gl’è preso il domator de cori,
Viva la bella Dori.

Beside the clear waters
of the famous Sebethos,
which gently murmuring,
flows between the lilies and the roses
mid innumerable gracious lovers and nymphs,
rejoicing in his victories,
Cupid tarried in disguise.
But, when he danced with one sweet lady,
by her fair eyes, as by a new sun,
he remained scorched and wounded.
Then the choir with one voice
exclaimed “He who subdued all hearts is captured!
Long live fair Dori!”.

Langs de klare stroming
van de beroemde Sebeto,
die zachtjes kabbelend stroomt
tussen lelies en rozen
temidden van duizenden minnaars en ninfen,
zit Amor vermomd en
geniet van zijn resultaat.
Maar als hij danst met een van hen,
wordt hij verblind en verwond door haar ogen,
als door een nieuwe zon.
Dan roept het koor uit één stem:
Hij die alle harten beheerst is hier:
"Leve de schone Dori!"
