Italian text Occhi dolci e soavi, Ch'avete del mio afflitto cor le chiavi, Non mi perseguitate, Ch'ho gelosia del sol che voi mirate. I vostri giri e lumi Son atti a inamorar'i monti e i fiumi, Non che l'alme viventi, Che fan l'amor coi vostri sguardi attenti. Ma se in mirar volete Altri amanti tirar sotto la rete, Fate ch'or io trabocchi, Prima ch'io veggia il mio dolor sugli occhi.

English translation Sweet and gentle eyes, That have the keys of my sad heart, Don't persecute me, As I am jealous of the sun that you look. Your turns and lights Are made to make rivers and mountains fall in love, And also the living souls, Who make love with your careful looks. But if you want, by looking, To draw other lovers under your net, Now let me fall Before I can see my pain in your eyes.
