Tu pur mi dai tormento;
E, se vita non hò, come lo sento?
Vive in te un rar’obbietto,
ch’il tuo duol cangerà tost’in diletto.
O languir de gl’amanti dolc’e grato,

Du kannst mich aber Qualen erleiden lassen;

When will ever end, Love,
either the life I live, or my grief?
The torment can end:
But he who has no life cannot die.
But you can give me pain
and if am not alive, how can I feel it?
There lives in you a rare object,
that will soon change your grief into delight.
O languor of lovers, sweet and welcome,
because at last it is turned into joy.
