Description: Published by Melchior Kriesstein, Augsburg, 1545. The allusion to the melody of Josquin's Inviolata at the beginning of the Discantus part perhaps makes it less, rather than more, likely that this work is genuinely by Josquin. The source is also of a suspiciously late date. Perhaps the work of a Josquin emulator. The source also seems somewhat faulty, but emendations have been proposed in this edition. Whatever its authorship, this setting is not without its charms.
